Stop-motion animation

An internal project that sheds light on who we are and the objects that surround us. From A to Z is a stop-motion animated primer that offers a glimpse inside Alfalfa Studio. It also gives center state to the often-forgotten objects that are part of our everyday life. The animated 26 letters invite you to find beauty in the mundane.

  • Project Brief

Our world is comprised of objects, whether we love them, hate them, or forget about them. A self-appointed “stuff collector” for as long as he can remember, Alfalfa Studio principal Rafael Esquer wanted to create an homage to the often-forgotten objects while introducing the viewer to our studio’s own little world.

“In order to grow, you must constantly challenge yourself. To discover new abilities, you must keep asking yourself: What if?” Esquer says, “Alfalfa Studio From A to Z, is the answer to the question: What if we make an Alfalfa Studio primer stop-motion video using everyday objects found around the studio?”

    Approach

After several weeks of meticulous movements and capturing thousands of photos, Alfalfa Studio successfully crafted an intricate stop-motion video. This visually dynamic piece shines a spotlight on the various objects that fill our daily lives.

From A to Z, Alfalfa Studio's animation featuring the bits and pieces from our office, is a captivating cabinet of curiosities. This visual story not only serves as a wellspring of inspiration but also encourages us to keep exploring. Each of the 26 letters unveils a facet of our creative design studio, with a delightful cast of characters including bananas for B, doodles for D, jellybeans for J, Origami for O, rubber bands for R, and an X-acto knife for X, among twenty more.

    Outcome

Since the project kicked off early this year, Esquer and his design team have spent whatever time they could find (between client work), collecting, staging, and photographing these tokens. Their straightforward and simple approach to the video reflects the studio’s philosophy; Make the idea clear and simple, the design surprising and beautiful.
